Challenges relating to safety, productivity and precision are driving the construction industry to rethink its working methods and introduce machines capable of operating in assisted or remote-controlled modes. Against this backdrop, a construction machinery manufacturer sought to develop a solution enabling its machines to be controlled remotely, whilst ensuring reliable and secure compatibility with the on-board computers already fitted to its equipment.<\/p>\n<p>The aim was not merely to create a new way of controlling the machines, but to design an interface capable of unifying control mechanisms, streamlining communication between operator and machine, and paving the way for a new generation of connected construction sites.<\/p>\n<h2>A growing need for structured remote operation<\/h2>\n<p>Remote operation of machinery represents a major advance for high-risk environments and hard-to-access construction sites. It helps to minimise operator exposure, maintain continuity of work in challenging conditions, and meet the growing demand for automation in the construction sector. To achieve operational results, it became essential to implement a system capable of communicating with the machines\u2019 control units, interpreting their feedback in real time and ensuring smooth, precise and secure control.<\/p>\n<p>It was with this in mind that Dunasys was commissioned to work on the programming and integration of remote control systems.<\/p>\n<h2>Our contribution<\/h2>\n<p>Dunasys played a key role in developing the core of the control system by programming the interface that links the control centre to the construction machinery. This work focused on ensuring full compatibility between the machines\u2019 on-board computers and the communication units required for remote control.<\/p>\n<p>Our experts worked on the software architecture, the interaction between the various communication layers and the fine-tuning of the control system to guarantee reliable, smooth and immediate execution of commands. The integration work created a seamless link between the operator, the supervision system and the machines, ensuring real-time control and responsiveness suited to on-site operations.<\/p>\n<p><!-- notionvc: 8dff0986-1487-4531-a0de-fa524531b024 --><\/p>\n<h2>Results &amp; Added Value<\/h2>\n<p>Dunasys\u2019s involvement has resulted in the creation of a fully operational prototype capable of demonstrating the feasibility of remote control of construction machinery. The system incorporates programming capabilities, paving the way for scalable automation scenarios and specific adaptations tailored to the client\u2019s industrial configurations.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the technological proof of concept, this project marks a significant step towards the deployment of robotic solutions in the construction sector and industrial environments. It positions the manufacturer, alongside Dunasys, as key players in building the connected construction site of tomorrow.<\/p>\n<h2>Technologies used<\/h2>\n<p>The project relies on machine-to-machine communication based on CAN and Ethernet protocols, ensuring reliable and rapid data exchange between the on-board controllers and the control station. A customised software interface, combined with real-time control, enables the operator\u2019s instructions to be transmitted with precision whilst providing the feedback necessary for safe and smooth control.<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>This partnership with Heracles Robotics demonstrates Dunasys\u2019s ability to support manufacturers in their advanced robotisation projects.
