Context & Challenges

In the defense sector, every microsecond matters.

Embedded systems must not only operate continuously but also withstand extreme environments: vibrations, thermal shocks, electromagnetic disturbances, network interference, and more.

A major defense contractor approached Dunasys to develop a real-time communication gateway capable of unifying multiple CAN and Ethernet networks within a mission-critical architecture.

The objective was to ensure secure, consistent, and instantaneous communication between essential subsystems used in operational environments.

The key technical challenges identified were:

  • Ensuring deterministic bidirectional communication with no latency and no data loss.
  • Withstanding military-grade electromagnetic constraints and harsh operational environments.
  • Integrating a high level of cybersecurity to protect sensitive communications.
  • Ensuring system certifiability in accordance with defense industry standards.
