Background & Challenges
In field missions, the ability to collect reliable data in real time is a major strategic advantage. This information enables threats to be anticipated, operations to be adjusted and the safety of deployed personnel to be enhanced. Faced with a growing need for situational awareness on the ground, the military client approached Dunasys to develop an on-board data logger capable of operating in extreme conditions. The aim was to equip a fleet of military vehicles with a robust system that was compatible with their existing architectures and sufficiently secure to handle sensitive data in an operational context.
A clear need: a unified and reliable data logger for real-world conditions
Before we stepped in, the client lacked a unified tool capable of ensuring continuous and reliable data collection in an OPEX environment. Existing solutions lacked consistency, resilience or compatibility with the proprietary protocols in use. It became essential to design an embedded platform that was compact, ruggedised and fully integrated, capable of withstanding the shocks, vibrations, climatic variations and frequent electromagnetic interference encountered in the field.
The challenge went beyond simple data capture: it was a matter of ensuring secure transmission and total data integrity, even when operational conditions made each data stream particularly vulnerable.
Our involvement
To meet this requirement, Dunasys developed a prototype of an on-board data logger specifically designed to be integrated into the client’s fleet of military vehicles. This initial phase enabled us to validate the device’s mechanical, electrical and software compatibility with existing systems, without disrupting their operation.
The teams then conducted a comprehensive series of integration tests based on the client’s proprietary communication protocols. This stage required a detailed understanding of internal standards, as well as particular rigour in managing secure data exchanges. It enabled us to verify that all data could be correctly encoded, transmitted, filtered and processed downstream.
Finally, field validation played a key role in the project’s success. The data logger was subjected to real-world operating conditions, confirming the reliability of the data stream despite operational constraints. This hands-on approach, closely aligned with the client’s needs, strengthened collaboration between the Dunasys teams and the client’s teams, particularly at the OPEX site, where every adjustment was immediately tested and evaluated.
Results & Added Value
This work demonstrated the technical feasibility of the data logger in real-world conditions, a crucial factor for considering a scale-up. The solution proved its robustness, its integration capabilities and its suitability for the specific requirements of the military sector. Above all, it has highlighted Dunasys’ expertise in sensitive environments, where security, reliability and control of communications are essential.
Close collaboration with field teams has also reinforced the system’s relevance. By working directly at the heart of operations, Dunasys has been able to design a system that is truly adapted to the constraints of the field, validated by those who use it.

The project is based on the Dunalog unit from Dunasys, designed to withstand the mechanical and electromagnetic disturbances typical of military environments. It utilises secure proprietary protocols that enable fully controlled data transmission. The system is built on a ruggedised and filtered communication architecture, ensuring the continuity and quality of information even in extreme conditions.
